SPECIES: Witch

BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Orson was left orphaned when his mother was shot and killed by hunters. That’s right, he was an orphaned cub, and when the hunters came along, his mother hid him away. Unfortunately, she stood no chance. He wandered the woods for weeks, lost and confused; he was at an age where Orson knew how to gather some food, but his mother hadn’t taught him how to completely survive on his own. Thankfully, an old, very powerful witch named Marissa happened upon the young cub. She had kept herself isolated from people since she was young, living in a tower far outside of Siren Cove’s city limits. But she had started to feel the loneliness of life and longed for a purpose. Upon finding the cub, she magicked him into a boy and named him Orson.
Unfortunately, it takes a great deal of magic to change a man to a beast and a beast to a man. As a result, Marissa unknowingly transferred all of her magic into Orson, changing him into a witch and herself into a human. She never regretted this consequence, as she loved her son a great deal, and having him around was well worth giving up a lifetime of magic. This made Marissa finally catch up to her actual age, through her appearance and her health.
Marissa raised Orson in the tower. She provided him with books and lessons in academics, taught him what herbs to use for every situation, told him stories and old wives’ tales. But mostly, she kept him sheltered from the world outside. Curious and naive, Orson often spent his time by the windows of the tower, dreaming of the day he could go outside and feel the sun on his face. He constantly asked his mother why he couldn’t go outside and the only answer she would give was a simple “It’s just not safe, dear.” Of course, Orson trusted his mother and tried not to question her. But he still longed to explore the world.
Marissa kept a lot from Orson, including the fact that he became a witch. She never told him about his powers, but she did explain that he was very special and turned into a bear every now and then. This mostly happened when Orson became upset or stressed. And with zero knowledge on how to control his new powers, he would shift into a bear unwillingly. Whenever this happened, Marissa would lock Orson in the basement of the tower to keep herself and Orson safe. As a bear, he became defensive and aggressive. He had no memory of himself or the people around him, so he had to spend this time locked away until he shifted back to himself.
Sadly, about a week ago (from Orson’s debut), age caught up to Marissa and she passed away from natural causes at the age of 104. Finding his mother was the most traumatic event Orson had and will ever experience in his life. Upset and confused, he shifted into a bear and escaped the tower.
PERSONALITY: Orson is extremely naive. He’s lived the most sheltered life and is constantly curious about the world around him. He loves to observe the world, taking in every single detail. He’s a happy man despite tragedy, and looks for the positives in life. He’s pretty much like a puppy, always happy, always adorable, and always excited. It’s pretty much impossible to stay mad at him for long.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: He will be unaware it exists and confused when he does hear about it. Why would anyone feud?
LIFESTYLE: Orson will arrive to Siren Cove with no home or job or anything to his name. He’ll be lost and unable to find his way back home.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Orson is a witch with shapeshifting abilities, though he is completely unaware that he’s able to control his shifting. With Marissa’s powers deep within him, he will have abilities such as potion making, healing, and shifting, but only once he learns how to work everything. For now, his most active power is shifting, which is he unable to control. He shifts into a bear when he’s upset, protective, or just generally at the worst moment possible. As a bear, he forgets who he is and turns wild. It will take someone special to be able to communicate with Orson as a bear and talk him down.
